What is Included: KGU guarantees accommodation for students who request it at time of application. The Center for International Education and Cooperation (CIEC) is the central coordinating office for all students, faculty, and staff coming to KGU and going abroad. KGU's professional counselors can assist students in English or Japanese. Counselors offer assistance for academic issues, interpersonal relationships, and culture shock. The Global Students Network hosts many events on campus. Exchange students may engage in part-time work as long as the work does not interfere with their studies.
What is not Included: Meals, airfare, personal expenses, textbooks, insurance, visa

In addition to student's mandatory travel health insurance coverage, students also much purchase Japanese National Health Insurance which is usually around 1,500 JPY (approximately $13.50) per month
Estimated Costs: The costs involved in studying abroad are comparable to living at Pacific. The main added cost is airfare. Students pay Pacific tuition and KGU's room and board fees while abroad.

1. Homestay (2,200 JPY/day): Includes 2 meals/day on weekdays, 3 meals/day on weekends and holidays, and utilities

Note: KGU may not be able to find a placement for exchange students due to their preferences, dietary needs or health conditions.

Program Description

Kwansei Gakuin is one of the most prestigious institutions in Japan, and was founded in Kobe in 1889. Nishinomiya campus is located in the Kansai region, midway between Osaka and Kobe, rich in historic architecture and cultural assets designated as national treasures, making the region ideal for learning about Japanese culture.

Contemporary Japan Program (CJP)
There are two study tracks available within the CJP. Students can choose one of the following study tracks:
- Japanese Language Track, for students who wish to focus on their Japanese language studies (5 credits of mandatory Japanese Language Courses each semester)
- Modern Japan Track, for students who wish mainly to learn about Japan via English-taught courses through a variety of subjects. (2 credit mandatory Japan Studies Course, "Modern Japan Seminar" each semester)

Pacific's Bilateral Exchange programs are suitable for students with strong leadership skills who want an immersion experience studying with local students, relying on local services with no management or oversight by Pacific or other U.S. providers.

The program start and end dates above are an approximation. Final dates will be provided closer to the program start. Students should expect to receive their Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to apply for their visa 1-2 months prior to their start date.
